The NHS offers most healthcare services free of charge, but there are some exceptions. You need to pay for certain services, such as prescription charges and dental fees. In some cases, fees cover the cost of treatment, while in others, the services are not covered by the NHS.
Examples of non-NHS services are: medical reports for insurance companies, claims on private health insurance, and letters and forms that need a doctor to review medical records.
The NHS pays doctors for specific NHS work, but for non-NHS work, fees are charged to cover the doctor's costs.
Please allow up to 6 weeks to complete non-NHS paperwork. This work must be undertaken outside of NHS contracted time, and the GPs have a very heavy workload. The doctor may need to thoroughly check a patient's medical record to complete a simple form.
Please note that we do not validate Passport or Driving Licence applications. This is due to the personal knowledge needed to provide this service.
Statement Regarding GP Signatures for Firearm Licensing
In 2022, it was agreed that our GPs would no longer provide or sign medical information reports for gun licence applications or renewals. As a result, we are unable to complete firearm or shotgun licensing forms for our patients.
Patients who require this service will need to obtain it from an alternative provider. A list of available private providers can be found by searching online for “private GP gun licence medical reports” or similar terms, which will help you identify organisations that specialise in this service.
